How to do Average in Math

Introduction for How to do Average in Math:

The average is otherwise called as arithmetic mean in math. The given number of elements can be added together and it can be divided by the total number of elements given. For example, the given set of numbers is 12, 13, 14, 16, and 10. Sum of the given set of number is 5 and the sum of the given integers are 12 + 13 + 14 + 16 + 10 = 60. The sum 60 can be divided by sum of given numbers 5. So we got the answer 60/5 = 12. Let us see about how to do average in math.

Example Problems for How to do Average in Math

Calculating Average for Given Integers

Example 1: How do you calculate the average of given marks scored by five students in a class?

94, 92, 99, 100, 85

Solution:

Step 1:

Let us write the given marks scored by five students.

94, 92, 99, 100, 85.

Step 2:

Add all the marks together.

94 + 92 + 99 + 100 + 85 = 470

Step 3:

The total numbers of students mark is 5.

Step 4:

Sum of all marks can be divided by the total number of given

470/5 = 94.

The average value for given set of marks obtained by students in a class is 94.

Example 2: How do you calculate the average for given decimal numbers in math?

0.283, 0.567, 0.163, 0.452, 0.849, 0.917.

Solution:

Step 1:

Let us write the given marks scored by five students.

0.283, 0.567, 0.163, 0.452, 0.849, 0.917.

Step 2:

Add all the decimals together.

0.283 + 0.567 + 0.163 + 0.452 + 0.849 + 0.917 = 3.231.

Step 3:

Sum of given decimals are 6.

Step 4:

Sum of all decimals can be divided by the total number of decimals.

3.231/6 = 0.538.

The average value for decimals is 0.538.
