Four Properties of Math

Introduction to four properties of math:

Four properties of math is nothing but in every function or any meth term having some basic properties. These properties are used to perform the order of operations on the numbers and functions. Here we are going to discuss about the four properties of math and we are going to discuss about these four properties with example.

Four properties of math are:

I) Distributive property

II) Associative property

III) Commutative property

IV) Identity property

Example for Four Properties in Math:

Distributive property:

It is one of the properties in math. It is used to combine the addition and multiplication. From the meaning itself we can understand distributive mean giving. Let us look at the example:

2. (5 + 3) = 2. 5 + 2. 3

Here 2 can be distributed to both 5 and 6.

We can’t use this property for multiplication

2 + (5. 6) = (2 + 5). (2 + 6)

Associative property:

Associative property is nothing but when we change the place of numbers also the value of the operation won’t change. Is this topic Commutative Property for Addition hard for you? Watch out for my coming posts.

Example:

2 + (3 + 5) = (2 + 3) + 5

We will get the same answer.

We can apply this for variables also.

Where x + (y + z) = (x + y) + z

Other Properties:

Commutative property:

Commutative property is nothing but when we change the order of the numbers or variables the value won’t get change.

Example: x + y = y + x

Here we can perform the operations for multiplication also

X. Y = Y. X

Identity property:

Identity mean if we use a number the value won’t change. In addition 0 is the identity number. Likewise in multiplication 1 is the identity number.

b. 1 = 1. b = b

Likewise

b + 0 = 0 + b = b

From the above we can understand the properties of math. These won’t applicable for division. These are the four basic properties in math.
